A Message to our PTO Community
To Our PTO Community:
Our hearts are with Minneapolis-St. Paul. None of us is safe until all of us are safe.
It’s clear that the situation in Minneapolis–as well as the way it is being framed and amplified–is creating much understandable anxiety and fear, particularly for everyone there as well as our friends and colleagues from outside the U.S. and anyone already navigating precarity in relation to travel, borders, surveillance, identity, economic resources, etc.
We are aware of concerns, and we share them. We are monitoring conditions as many members of our community are organizing. We are committed to participant safety and inclusion and are working on plans to keep participants as safe as possible. We also want to affirm that we are committed to holding an in-person conference in July 2026 in Minneapolis. We believe this moment is precisely the time for those who are able to be there to be present. Just being together is a form of resistance. At the same time, we also know that many people will not be able to be there in person, which is why we also remain committed to our plans for an online conference so that anyone who cannot be in Minneapolis will be able to participate in our conference community in meaningful ways.
The coordinator of the Global Solidarity group of the PTO Board will host a Q&A for anyone with questions about attending the conference and the current situation in the US on Thursday, January 29, at 10 AM US Central time (the time zone of Minneapolis, Chicago, etc.); more information will follow. If you have any questions in the interim about submitting to either the in-person or online conference or about how the conference will be organized, feel free to contact us at ptominneapolis2026@gmail.com. Submission information is also available at ptoweb.org.

Nuestros corazones están con Mineápolis. Ningunx de nosotrxs está a salvo hasta que todxs estemos a salvo. Está claro que la situación en Mineápolis, así como la forma en que se está representando y amplificando, está creando–comprensiblemente–mucha ansiedad y miedo, particularmente para todxs lxs que están allí, así como para nuestrxs amigxs y colegas de fuera de los EEUU y cualquiera que ya esté navegando por la precariedad en relación con viajar o específicamente con las fronteras, la vigilancia, la identidad, los recursos económicos, etc.
Estamos conscientes de las preocupaciones y las compartimos. Estamos monitoreando la situación mientras muchos miembros de nuestra comunidad se organizan. Nos comprometemos con la seguridad e inclusión de lxs participantes y trabajamos en planes para garantizar su máxima seguridad. También queremos reafirmar nuestro compromiso de tener una conferencia presencial en julio de 2026 en Mineápolis. Creemos que este es precisamente el momento para que quienes puedan asistir estén presentes. El simple hecho de estar juntxs es una forma de resistencia. Al mismo tiempo, sabemos que muchas personas no podrán asistir presencialmente, por lo que mantenemos nuestro compromiso con nuestros planes para una conferencia en línea también, para que quienes no puedan asistir en Mineápolis puedan participar activamente en nuestra comunidad de la conferencia.
