Conference Location

Loyola University Chicago
Mundelein Center for the Fine and Performing Arts
1020 W. Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660 USA

Airport Information

Chicago has two major airports: O’Hare International Airport (located northwest of downtown) and Midway International Airport (located southwest of downtown).

Transportation from Airport to Conference Site

Landing at O’Hare Airport: O’Hare is almost directly due west of the conference location, 14 miles away by car. Participants landing at O’Hare can reach the conference location via taxi, rideshare services (Lyft, etc.), driving, or public transport.

  • Taxi: Taxi stands are located at all terminals.
  • Rideshare: Rideshare companies are now permitted to make pick-ups and drop-offs at Chicago airports. Specific phone applications for each service should tell you where to go for pick-up.
  • Driving from O’Hare: If you are renting a car, you are strongly encouraged to check current traffic to determine your route to Loyola or your accommodations. In low-traffic times, it can take as few as 30 minutes to reach Loyola from O’Hare. In high-traffic times, it can take considerably longer.
  • Public transport: You have two options for traveling from O’Hare to Loyola University Chicago via public transport.
    • Option 1 for Public Transit from O’Hare: CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Elevated Train with transfer to CTA bus. When you land at O’Hare, follow the signs for the CTA Blue Line train station that is located at the airport itself (at the end of the line, so there is only one direction you can choose). Take the Blue Line to Jefferson Park, and then from the Jefferson Park station you take the Number 81 Bus to the Sheridan & Lawrence. From Sheridan and Lawrence, you take the 151 Bus north to the Sheridan & Kenmore stop. The Sheridan & Kenmore bus stop is right in front of Loyola’s Mundelein Center, the conference location. (Estimated time: 70-75 minutes in transit)
    • Option 2 for Public Transit from O’Hare: CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Elevated Train with one Transfer. When you land at O’Hare, follow the signs for the CTA Blue Line train station that is located at the airport itself (at the end of the line, so there is only one direction you can choose). Take the Blue line to the Washington stop. At the Washington stop, transfer to the Red line. Take the Red line towards Howard. If you are going to the hotel or the dorms first, get off at Loyola station. If you are going directly to the conference building first, the Granville station is slightly closer. (Estimated time: 90 minutes in transit)

Landing at Midway Airport: Midway is located southwest of the conference location, approximately 20.2 miles by car. Participants landing at Midway can reach the conference location via taxi, rideshare services (Lyft, etc.), driving, or public transport.

  • Taxi: Taxi stands are located at all terminals.
  • Rideshare: Rideshare companies are now permitted to make pick-ups and drop-offs at Chicago airports. Specific phone applications for each service should tell you where to go for pick-up.
  • Driving from Midway: If you are renting a car, you are strongly encouraged to check current traffic to determine your route to Loyola or your accommodations. In low-traffic times, it can take as few as 30 minutes to reach Loyola from Midway. In high-traffic times, it can take considerably longer.

Public transport: You have one option for traveling from O’Hare to Loyola University Chicago via public transport:

  • CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) Elevated Train with one Transfer. Midway also has its own CTA elevated train stop, on the Orange Line. When you land at Midway, follow signs to the Orange Line train stop. Midway is the end of the Orange line, so you can only go in one direction. Take the Orange Line to Roosevelt. At Roosevelt, transfer to the Red Line. Take the Red line towards Howard. If you are going to the hotel or the dorms first, get off at Loyola station. If you are going directly to the conference building first, the Granville station is slightly closer to your destination.

Driving and Parking

The main Loyola parking structure is located at the corner of Sheridan Road and Winthrop Avenue. The entrance to the parking structure is off the campus drive, accessed from the light at Sheridan Road and Kenmore Avenue.

  • Parking is available for a $7 USD flat rate per day. You take a ticket when you enter the garage, save the ticket during the day, and you pay at one of two pay stations on the first floor before you go back to your car.
  • The best way to find the parking structure using a GPS is to put the address for Mundelein Center (1020 W. Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660 USA) in the GPS. When you arrive at Mundelein Center, you will see that you are at the intersection of Sheridan and Kenmore. Follow Kenmore (which is an inner-campus drive at this point) around the leftward bend to the main parking structure. There is additional street parking available on many streets west, north, and south of the university.

There are many ways to reach the conference site by car. Again, if you are driving, you are strongly encouraged to consult GPS or internet direction websites for the best route from where you are arriving, especially given Chicago traffic.

Other Transportation Information

There will be no conference shuttle: Attendees are responsible for their own transportation to their accommodations and to the conference site itself. The conference building, the dorms, and the hotels are all located relatively close together. The university is located on the Red Line of the CTA elevated train (at the Loyola Station).

Lodging

As usual, PTO has reserved a room block for a lower-cost option (a large block of dorm rooms at Loyola University Chicago) and a hotel option. You can find more information about those options below. Below the information about those specific options, we answer some Frequently Asked Questions, with some adaptations for PTO Chicago 2020 specifically. Please note that you are not required to reserve under our room blocks and may be able to locate other options that work better for you. The fact that the conference location is right next to a CTA Elevated “El” train stop (Loyola Station) means that, in many cases, participants could relatively easily stay elsewhere and take public transport to the conference.

Low-Cost Resident Halls on Campus

Where: Loyola University Chicago dormitories on the Lake Shore Campus (Specific dormitories will be assigned when PTO submits its final spreadsheet of dorm reservations, and additional information will follow for those who reserve rooms.)

Main address of Loyola Lake Shore Campus: 1032 W Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660

How dorm reservations will happen: Individuals will reserve and pay for their dorm reservations through an online reservation system run by PTO. PTO then submits a final list of roommates and room assignments to Loyola.

Additional information will follow when we open formal dorm registration in mid-late February, but we list the relevant pricing information here in advance so that attendees can calculate cost. The PTO email list and conference presenters will be notified when the dorm reservation system goes live. A large dorm block is reserved. That said, attendees are advised to reserve soon after they receive notification that the reservation system is available because it’s difficult for us to predict whether or how quickly the reservation block will fill.
